About Us

Chris Young

Hello. For those of you that know me or have listened to the podcast before, you know how much I love sports. I have been watching and following sports for as long as I can remember. I am a nerd for stats across all sports. I would have to say my favorite is baseball as I played most of life. I had a fairly successful prep career before life decided it was going to go in a different direction.

Aside from sports, I enjoy listening to and making my friends listen to all kinds of music. If you have any suggestions on new music I am all ears.

I also am big into the collectible world. I collect everything from sports cards to action figures. I have a side hustle of buying and selling sports cards and memorabilia as well. When it comes to cards, I have a ton of them. I also collect wrestling figures, GI Joe figures and other assorted toys. To answer your question, yes, I am still a child at heart.

This podcast evolved from years of friendship with Mike and Aaron and the decision to turn our normal conversations in to a podcast in attempt to share our thoughts with the masses. Well, at least with a few of our friends and family.

I am not nearly as long winded as Aaron and Mike but that is a bit about me. Check out the podcast to continue to learn more about all of us.

Mike Heeley

It was a cold winter morning in late December 1975 that I came shooting out of my mother, a clenched fist of anger for being ripped from the quiet comfort of the womb.  I haven’t really unclenched that fist in the last 47 years.  I liked sports growing up, playing baseball for Saint Ferdinand CYC from Kindergarten to 12th grade.  Well, actually I tried Khory league for one year in sixth grade, and in 7th grade, I was too into listening to Guns N Roses to play baseball.  I also played basketball for 3 seasons when I was in 3rd and 4th grade.  I got 1 point in three seasons.  Not one basket for 2 points…no.  I made 1 free throw for 1 point in three seasons.

Listen, I wasn’t that great at traditional sports, and I didn’t really have a love for it.  But I enjoyed it enough to stick with it (except for 7th grade), and now I coach my kids in baseball and encourage them to play whatever sports they want.  They are much more athletic than I ever was.

Considered an alternative sport, BMX Freestyle was my love from 12 to 16 years old.  I was much better at endos, cherry-pickers, tail whips, and wheelies than I ever was as a catcher, outfielder or hitter.  Then I got my driver’s license, sold my bike, and that was the end of my BMX career.

I really didn’t become a true fan of professional sports until later in life.  I loved the Saint Louis Cardinals, having gone to many games with my family as a kid, but I wasn’t a diehard sports fan.  That didn’t really come until later in life.  Following the Rams through the bad, then the great, then the bad years is what solidified me as a true sports fan.  But what’s funny, is as soon as they were stolen from the city, I ended my relationship with the NFL.  Fuck them and fuck Stan Kroenke.

Back when we used to drink (a lot), Chris and I would talk sports.  One day, we said we should have a podcast.  Then we did.  The first iteration was called 2 Assholes on Sports, and that was definitely a very appropriate name.  We were irreverent, hell we were ignorant.  We had several starts and stops with “2 Assholes” but as we’ve grown wiser and sober, we decided if we want to make a product that is palatable for the masses, we had to sandpaper the edges a bit.  We’re still irreverent, but not shock jocks.

So yeah, that’s my bio.  Thanks for listening to Worst Fans in Sports and thanks for reading.

Aaron Popp

Hello! Nice to meet you, my name is Aaron Popp. I have been a “Special Assistant” for the podcast for over 10 years and was only recently given my own microphone and allowed to speak whenever I want to! Things are looking up for me.

I am a lifelong fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, but my first sports love was the original St. Louis Steamers soccer team in the Major Indoor Soccer League in the early 1980’s. When I was little my family had season tickets for the Steamers, and some of my fondest sports memories are from the Checkerdome/St. Louis Arena. I was actually there to witness the 4-overtime win versus the L.A. Lazers, and I was also at the game where Nebo Bandovic scored 6 goals! (It’s okay if you don’t know what any of that means). My first Blues game was also at The Barn on Oakland. Yeah…I’m old.

Aside from being a homer for the Cardinals (THE CARDINALS ARE THE BEST TEAM EV-ERRRR!) I am a season ticket holder for St. Louis CITY SC and I have been known to go to a Blues game or two. And the Battlehawks too (KA-KAW!) I love everything St. Louis…from the beer to the Arch to the BBQ to the Vess soda to the gunfire (okay, not so much the gunfire).

I’m a Lego fan, so if you listen to the podcast you may hear me make Lego references from time to time. And I try to come up with a fun list or some FUN FACTS for every podcast, so that information alone should be enough for you to listen! I also love puns and stupid jokes, so I’m sure you’ll appreciate my humor immediately (or absolutely hate me).
